The Great Salt Lake is a highly saline terminal lake with considerable fluctuations in water surface elevation and salinity. divided into two arms by railroad causeway. River inflows enter the larger south arm, while north arm only receives minimal runoff. Evaporation from both limited exchange of salt through causeway openings result complex salinity processes lake. typically homogeneous close to saturation. stratified periodic occurrences deep brine layer. This paper analyzes lake’s long-term historical data record. Its purpose better document movement changes time space within occurrence extent its work important because salinity-dependent ecosystem industries as well role played layer concentration contaminants. We documented that intermittent, occurring when supports flow arms. found overall mass declining quantified this terms mineral extraction records density measurements.
